All the Magic!

So this weekend me and Sefah got together in person (hence our console stream) but also we were joined by our buddy MourningPhoenix (aka Trevor). Now when ever us three get together we tend to play Magic...a lot of Magic. And that's what ended up happening loads of EDH, trading, playing "Modern" (I did finally finish my decks), and in a surprise turn of events me and Sefah even got into a RTR Block Sealed on Magic Online. I'm going to post the stream of our sealed below and some fun interactions that happened in some of our EDH Games. There is a small issue with sound for the first 2 minutes.

3. Sefah stole a Sunblast Angel that was enchanted with Gift of Immmortality, repeatedly swung into Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts to trigger repeatedly.

4. Lolzor plays a Mind Rot into a Possibility Storm to pull Ashes to Ashes to deal with 2 on board Ulamogs. Next turn Devil's Play for 9 damage with Rakdos Lord of Riots on field drop Artisan of Kozilek bringing back Bloodhunter Bat to play Darksteel Colossus.

SCSLive!...but not really...

So I'm gonna be honest with you guys, between the Theros prerelease and school and work me and Sefah are just exhausted. So to fill your time here is a stream we had backlogged. Sefah and I had a few drinks and played Starcraft 2, think of it as an intro to next weeek in which we most likely will be trying to duo our self to glory. Anyway hope you guys had a good weekend and we will be back soon.

It's totally not Megaman...

Hey guys its Wednesday and it's my turn to write this week so let's begin. I'm using my article to bring light to a project that I really wanna see get to it highest potential.

As most people know we here at SCS love Megaman, it's just an amazing series. Now Capcom has not been to kind to our franchise as of late, but what if we could just let the developers make us a megaman game and kick Capcom out of the picture? Well basically that's what happened. Keiji Inafune  is one of the grandfathers of the Megaman and has started his own game company along with other veterans of the series in an attempt to make a "Classic Japanese" side scroller. Now the game is about a robot who fights other robots and gets their powers...but its not Megaman, this new hero is Beck aka Mighty No 9. Now this project was mostly met with a shut up and take my money feel but there is still criticism floating around there. Most of the negative light is about unoriginal games and remake of old characters is holding us back, as well as general mistrust of Kickstarter (where the funding for this project is being held) since the DoubleFine issues.

Over all though the game looks to be very awesome, the team as been very communicative, and its very hard not to be excited. I've already done my share and pledged and it passed its start up goal in a matter of hours...but these stretch goals are very enticing and if you think its worth being made than its worth a few bucks to make sure its the best possible.

Theros Watch Day 3

Hey guys another Monday and another round up of spoilers I want to talk about. These are not all the ones spoiled just the ones I found interesting or noteworthy. Also as another note I plan on talking about the Gods and their weapons all together so do not fear.

Boon Satyr is an endangered species, and by that I mean a playable bestow card. Now I'm not hating on this mechanic is cool and interesting but because of its nature it was obvious there would only be a few playable and the rest would be way over costed. The reason this guy is good is a 3 cost 4/2 with flash is nothting to scoff at and 5 mana is not bad for the effects of Bestow. This might see some play but I'm not sure I feel like some enchantment removal still really hurts this whole principle.

Lets do the flip side here, devotion is a wonderful mechanic in my eyes. Look at this card everything is just right about it. Comes in and you are gonna get an army of these elementals and he is a non-legendary creature so you can stack this up and make them bigger. What's that you say? Oh you are right if Master of Waves is destroyed you lose your army...BAM PROTECTION FROM RED! Yea he is still vulnerable but a noteworthy protection is more than I would expect from this card so it was a pleasant surprise. The icing on the cake is that this is a merfolk. This card seems pretty strong in its right deck. Good Job Wizards.

Reverse Fact or Fiction? I'll take it. This is a very strong card and I like it a lot, it seems like control will finally have a chance to come back into the day light. The only thing that holds this card back is it is U/R so you aren't able to splash this but America control is happy for this card for sure.

Oh monstrosity I don't know what to do with you. This card is really good but I'm hesitant to like it because its monstrosity. A 3/3 for 2 and the ability to become a 4/4 with hexproof and indestructible is strong but as Sefah mentioned to me this is looking like the new "Level Up" mana sinks aren't the best but this guy could change the mold.

Lastly we have the planeswalkers. These 2 are basically opposites of each other, Xenagos is amazing as can be and Ashiok is....awkward. I cant see our Gruul friend here not played in multiple formats he has too much utility and power. Now Ashiok I can't really talk about...because I just don't know with him. The last thing I want to mention is the so called "Planeswalker Test" and this seems like the best place to talk about it. Basically the idea is there are 3 things you look for in a PW: Self-Protection, Utility, and A crazy ult. If we look at Xenagos he has his 0 for protection his +1 is some great utility and his ult is very strong...Ashiok does not pass this test. The one good thing though is no Emblems.

Ok guys thats all for now. Next week everything should be up so we will have a final article then.

What is a sport?

What is a sport?

Lately I've been wondering about this and I've been wanting to put it in words. It's been about, well, exactly the title of the article: what is a sport? Some think that it is a physical activity, normally put in teams. But chess is recognized as a worldwide sport, and even has drug-testing now for higher competitions. (Crazy, right?)

So surely it's just competing, right? Bowling is considered a sport, so is golf. I'm here to say I disagree with that. My personal definition of a sport is something that involves competition; but more importantly, in a head-to-head competition that interacts with your opponent's.

Bowling and Golf are score based games. There's a certain "perfect" score you can attain, although they may be highly unrealistic. You really don't play against each other, you play against a scoreboard or leaderboard. I would consider Billiards/Pool is more a sport than those. Another example of a simple head-to-head competition would be pingpong or table tennis.

The reason I write this is because of e-sports. I have been a huge fan of it lately. And I think competition is just as fierce as it is in several other sports. The training regiments that are implemented for cyberathletes are very identical to other professional athletes.

tl;dr It's about competing against one another, not setting a high score. If you don't play against anyone, it is not a sport.

Thanks for reading.

Theros Spoiler 2 (Free Article Train AWWW YEAAAA)

Ok so we have had a shit ton of spoilers. I'm just gonna get this out of the way: HOLY CRAP THOUGHTSIEZE AND MAGMA JET! Alright sweet, now we can talk about new stuff.

Sweet so lets start with this guy here. I picked this particular rare because I thought he was interesting. 6 cost 5/6 that turns all your humans into pingers. Not amazing but a fun card.

Ok so now we have this guy. Why do I bring up this common? Well because I was hoping to see Tendrils of Corruption but with a "Devotion" flair but I'm gonna have to settle for a creature that does it instead.

We have seen this card in every different form at this point, I'm just surprised its not an elf. It'll be good since mono color or at the most 2 color decks are being pushed now.

Alright now on to the good stuff. When I saw Magma Jet I was super excited. The reason is that scry was basically spoiled. Now these 2 cards are the best examples of it beside the aforementioned red card (Sefah may or may not agree). Read the Bones is a Sign in Blood but you get to scry 2 first...solid power adding 1 colorless to scry 2. Voyage's End seems super strong to me, yes it is a 2 cost bounce creature but  in standard play I can see this getting alot of action.

Lastly there is Elspeth. Not nearly the god send fake card we saw earlier. She is gonna be fun in EDH but i just don't see her in standard. She is 6 mana which is rough in this aggressive meta. Her abilities are very good though so she isn't awful though I think her -7 is a tad weak. Unless the format slows waaaaayyyy down I just don't see her played anywhere (not to say they wont try)

Ok thats all for today I may post more on Friday since we only scratched the surface but this should hold you for now
