RCotD #153

Random Card of the Day #153:

Monkey Cage - 5
Artifact
When a creature enters the battlefield, sacrifice Monkey Cage and put X 2/2 green Ape creature tokens onto the battlefield, where X is that creature's converted mana cost.

Initial thoughts:

What a crazy card. I love it. It's good in control, it's good in aggro, it's good in combo. It's just a really funny card.

In control, you can somewhat be selective of what creatures resolve from your opponents. Or keep it on the field until you get your own Titan to hit the field.

In aggro, it may be a little high cost, but if the next creature you play is going to be a big one, it works perfectly.

In combo... well. Yeah. If you wanted to be evil you could Tinker this out and then Oath of Druids Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. You could. But if you had that god-hand you probably won anyways. It's just got more style being swarmed by monkeys. What's worse is the sacrifice isn't an "intervening if" clause. Which means if you got multiple creatures with flash. Oh man.

Crazy card. So much potential. 4/5
